Have you ever heard of...

SIEGE?

I'm not surprised if you haven't heard of them, they're not too well-known,
except for dedicated fans of hardcore punk and grindcore.

Basic Facts:

  • Founded in 1983 in Weymouth, Mass.
  • Original line-up consists of Kevin Mahoney (vocals), Kurt Habelt (guitar) , Hank McNamee(bass), and Rob Williams (drummer)
  • Although close to Boston, they don't fit into the Straight Edge Boston Crew gang since they normally performed at Western Mass, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
  • They did, however, performed at Greenfield, along with DYS, The Freeze, Outpatients and Deep Wound.
  • Temporarily broke up in 1985, before reformed with Anal Cunt vocalist Seth Putnam in 1991, which lasted about a year.
How good were they?

These guys listened to American hardcore punk albums at the time such as Black Flag, Minor Threat, Void, etc while listening to British bands such as Discharge and Motorhead.

So, their goal was to play faster than traditional hardcore punk, and at the same time heavier than British punk and metal.

The Result ?

That's just the first song.

This one is so intense, that three of them couldn't wear shirts due to the intensity of the song.

Seriously, these guys make D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies and S.O.D. lame by comparison.

Even though short-lived, they were influential, with bands such as Napalm Death and Dropdead (taken from Siege's demo tape) said that the band had a profound influence on them.

That's quite an achievement for a band that lasted 2 years in the first time and 1 year the second.
